MERCEDES-BENZ GenH2 TRUCK (2020)
A NEW DAWN.
A fully driveable, hydrogen-powered prototype created in close cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and winner of the Truck Innovation Award 2021.
Among my talented colleagues, I was very fortunate to win the design competition for the project, becoming its responsible lead designer.
PROUD EXPOSURE OF HYDROGEN TECH
DESIGNED FROM ITS HEART
Starting from a blank sheet, from the first conceptual sketches, my mission was to proudly expose the ground-breaking technology in an honest and aesthetically appealing way:
No matter what the “shell” would be, I wanted to highlight the fuel cells as well as the characteristic hydrogen tanks to emphasise the technical process.
THEME SELECTION
PURE TECH, FLUID BODY
This theme made it through the final selection and I was fortunate to become lead designer for the GenH2 Truck. From here, we went on to create 3D models both virtually and in reality.
The puristic “technology rack”, shown in dark blue and red, now visually adds to the forward-thrusting gesture of the truck and is gently covered with a minimalist, fluid silver shell that melts onto it, creating an unexpected and reduced look.
